Our sixth grader Bethany Vaughan was one of only two middle school students in the state of Texas to receive the honor of competing in the National History Day Contest in Washington DC/Maryland for the junior division research paper. She received this opportunity by winning first place in the Johnston Middle School History Fair, then first place in the Houston ISD West Regional History Fair, then second place in the Houston ISD History Fair and finally second place in the Texas State History Day for her research paper "To Drop the Bomb or Not to Drop the Bomb--That is the Question." The Texas Historian has also stated plans to publish Bethany's research in a future issue of the magazine.
Bethany Vaughan discusses the findings of her research with United States Representative John Culberson on the steps of the Capitol, in Washington DC, while at the National History Day Contest.
